Hudson Go-Go Fordson Tractor

Hudson Go-Go tractor

I had been planning to build one of these locos for some time when a very nice 3d printed version appeared by Paul Smith (floyd_kraemer).  At the time he only produced an 09 version so I needed to remove a bit of material from the inside to suit one of Mark Clarke’s Mk2 SPUD replacement chassis.

Luckily I didn’t need to eat into too much of the beautiful drive chain detail. The prototype had 2ft diameter wheels which were far more prominent than the 1ft 6inch (10.5mm) ones I chose for my chassis so I could keep the chain detail.

There are a couple of compromises in that the canopy supports should be angle iron rather than round bar and the tractor engine unit should be off-set to the right when looking forward from the cab but these are things I can live with as I am not sure when I would have got around to building one myself.

Overall I am very pleased with how it has turned out and will be interested to see how it performs on the layout.  It is quite light and most of my light locos have struggled a bit with my iffy track work. Time will tell during the first few exhibitions of 2023.
